Bangor Savings Bank is sharing some trivia about their infamous Christmas Kittens commercial, created 40 years ago.

I still remember the first time I saw those two cute little kittens playing around the Christmas tree, knocking over the milk, and tearing open the presents. It was something we looked forward to every year in my house. If we left the room to get a snack during the commercials, hearing the iconic music would have us all rushing back to the TV. Of course, this was in the days before you could just call it up on YouTube and watch it again.

Since this is the 40th year, Bangor Savings Bank has decided to celebrate with a special video, that tells some of the background behind the commercial, including the cats' names. Who knew they were such 'Outlaws?'

In addition, Bangor Savings Bank is donating a total of $10,000 to several humane societies and animal shelters throughout Maine and New Hampshire. You can nominate your favorite online.

I had heard some of the background behind this commercial, including the fact that shooting it was challenging. Of course it was! As W.C. Fields said, "Never work with children or animals." I sure hope whoever did the editing on this commercial got a raise, or at least a pack of McDonald's gift certificates, (wait...were those even around back then?!) because we're still talking about it 40 years later. Even though I don't have commercial TV, I still go onto YouTube and find the commercial every year. It's just not Christmas without it.
