Maine Man Lost Control of His SUV while Choking, Hit a Pizzeria

A Maine driver is okay after his SUV hit the front of a pizzeria and real estate office in Gray.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deputies responded to the building located at 7 Main Street in Gray that houses Goody's Pizzeria and the Atlantic Real Estate Network, for a report of a crash. When they arrived they found a red 2013 GMC Terrain sport utility vehicle on the sidewalk and a portion of the building's facade in pieces.

Officials spoke with the driver, Kenneth Plummer, who told them he was traveling southbound on Main Street when he started choking on a piece of food. In his distress, he lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, striking both businesses. He had obviously dislodged whatever was choking him by the time officials arrived and was not hurt in the crash.

The collision caused minor structural and cosmetic damage to both buildings while Plummer's vehicle had to be towed from the scene because of disabling damage. Traffic in the area was delayed for about an hour while the scene was cleared.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Gray Fire Department. The incident remains under investigation.
