Celebrate Shark Week ‘Maine Style’ With 10 That Can Be Found Here
Hey Maine, take a "bite" out of Shark Week!
Shark Week is an annual, weeklong party on the Discovery Channel, that originally premiered in 1988, and has since become a phenomenon all over the world.
Featured each year in July or early August, it was originally baed around conservation efforts and correcting misconceptions about sharks, but now it has become a huge hit.
Since 2010, it has been the longest-running cable television programming event in history, so with that in mind, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at what kinds of sharks migrate and live on the Gulf of Maine.
There are around 23 different species of sharks that populate the Gulf of Maine, but it should come as no surprise that Great Whites pose the biggest threat to people.
Many species of sharks found in Maine waters are seasonal visitors, and you’re most likely to spot one when the water is warmest, during the late summer and early fall. Great Whites are no exception, they are most commonly found in the Gulf of Maine, from July to October.
Ever since a fatal attack in 2020, Maine authorities have been quick to shut down beaches in the wake of shark sightings.
Enjoy summer in Maine, but stay safe out there!
