American Red Cross says the Severe Blood Shortage that was announced around the 4th of July continues, through the end of the month.

American Red Cross Regional Communications Manager for the Northern New England Region, Mary Brant called it

"a very severe blood shortage, probably the worst in many years."

A lot of blood donors are college students and of course they are out of class this time of the year.  Secondarily, a lot of companies and businesses that hold Red Cross Blood Donor clinics at their locations, tend not to do so during the summer months.  Vacations and all.

There is a Red Cross Blood Donor clinic scheduled for this Friday.  And not only is the Red Cross hopeful to build up blood supply, but they are also encouraging all blood donors this week to also donate linens, food, treats and toys for animals.  All of those items collected will be donated to the Bangor Humane Society.

The Blood Drive is this Friday, the 23rd, and is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  It will be held at the Bangor Blood Donation Center on Hammond Street in Bangor.

Help two organizations at the same time, and register to give blood at Red Cross dot org, or by calling 1 800 Red Cross.  Clean out your linen closet and save a life, at the same time.
