The Bangor BMV, which has called the Airport Mall home for the past 25 years, will be moving to a new location, not too far away. Where are they going? Well, the plan is to set up shop in the old DHHS building at 396 Griffin Road, Suite 2, right up the street from where they are now.

According to a statement released by the Maine Secretary of State's Office Thursday, the new location will not only provide more room for those who visit and those who work there but there will be better access to things like restrooms and natural light, than the current location offers.

"The new branch location will allow our dedicated staff to better serve the public, and provide a healthier office environment for workers and the public," said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. "The lobby is bigger to allow for greater physical distancing with more natural light and amenities including more accessible parking."

The Bangor location in Bangor is the busiest BMV branch. In 2021, it served nearly 47,000 customers.

The former tenants of the new location, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services changed locations to the old Bangor Savings Bank Processing Center on Maine Avenue in 2019.

In order to make the move happen, the Bangor BMV office will be closed next Thursday and Friday (January 27 and 28) and will reopen on Monday, Jan. 31. They plan to have an official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new space on February 1.
