In 2018, folks at the Bangor Region YMCA asked the community for some input on how they could better serve and help people in Bangor? What did locals think was missing from the area? And the community answered with many suggestions, not the least of which was the idea to create a safe space where area teens could go for "non-athletic afterschool programming, post-secondary and career readiness, building a sense of community and relationships, and improving psychosocial well-being." According to the Y's Youth Program Manager, John Quinn, the Y's new Teen Center is the result of an 18 month process and a lot of hard work.

Quinn says they are finally ready to show off their new space with a Grand Opening on Wednesday February 27th from 5-6:30 at the new Teen Center, 17 Second St. in Bangor. There will be snacks, tours and local speakers, with a special presentation scheduled for 5:30.

The Teen Center will feature special clubs, including Interact, Teens To Work, Middle School Leaders and various support groups for this age bracket. There will also be an open drop-in center for kids 12-18 years old. The Teen Center will be open from 2-6PM on weekdays and 11AM to 4PM on weekends.

Organizers hope area teens will help spread the word about this free resource and use the space as a meeting spot, a place to come and relax or do some homework, and as a safe space to reach out to volunteers and professionals, even if just to talk.

Quinn says you can find more information at the Bangor Y's Teen Center Facebook Page.
