One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash on Valley Avenue in Bangor.

Police were called to the scene just after 8 AM Sunday, according to Sergeant Wade Betters. They found a vehicle that had left the roadway and down an embankment before it came to a violent stop. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, Donald Ketchen, 79, of Old Town, died at the scene. Officials say the vehicle suffered catastrophic damage.

Bangor Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team spent a rainy Sunday morning investigating the circumstances that led to the crash. Aiding in that investigation is the Criminal Investigation Division. The Valley Avenue area of Bangor is expected to be closed for much of the day.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
