Rest assured, Bangor PD is working hard to make sure no one rips off your holiday deliveries!

This is the time of the year when the USPS, UPS, and Fed-Ex, are busting their butts to make sure you get your Christmas packages. Unfortunately, that also means an uptick in the dreaded phenomenon of "porch pirates".

One time I was waiting for an important delivery, and based on the neighborhood I live in, I watched and tracked that thing like a hawk. Luckily, I was home all day on the date it was to arrive, so I pounced on it the second it hit my deck. Some people aren't so fortunate, and there has been an uptick of people looking to swipe your stuff.

Cruisers will be out and about, making sure that no shenanigans go down.

If your employer allows it, you can always have them delivered there. That way, you know it will arrive safe and sound. If you don't have that option, the Bangor Police Department is on the case.

Here are some valuable tips too prevent this from happening to you:

1. Install a security camera:
A visible doorbell camera or outdoor security camera can throw thieves off, by recording their actions and alerting you when someone approaches your porch.

2. Use motion sensor lights:
Bright lights activated by movement can scare the crap out of potential thieves and illuminate your porch area.

3. Get a package delivery box:
Invest in a secure package delivery box where deliveries can be left, instead of on your doorstep.

4. Track your packages:
Actively monitor your package tracking info, so you know when deliveries are expected and can retrieve them promptly.

5. Request signature confirmation:
When ordering online, choose the option to require a signature upon delivery, that way someone must be present to receive the package.

6. Consider a package locker service:
A local package locker or pickup point, can make picking up packages much more convenient.

7. Post a visible security sign:
Display a sign clearly stating that your property is under surveillance with security cameras. Odds are, they will think twice!

8. Be neighborly:
Talk to your neighbors about porch pirates, and what they see in your area, so you can work together to knock this nonsense off.

9. Be aware of delivery times:
Try to be home, or have someone you trust to pick up your packages when delivery date arrives.

10. Contact your delivery service:
If you have concerns about frequent package theft, contact your delivery company to discuss potential solutions.
