Big things are coming for one of Bangor's most iconic dining spots!

There have been a few changes in the Downtown Bangor bar & restaurant biz in the last few months, and now there is another, as two new owners will carry on the tradition of a much-loved hot spot.

As of this past Saturday, Liz Sites-Grant, and her husband Mike, are the new owners of Pepino's Mexican Restaurant, located at 49 Park Street, in the heart of Downtown Bangor.

The plan is to expand the hours of business, meaning they will be open later. There will also be a late-night bar menu and new lunch specials.

Most of the menu will remain intact, but some exciting new options will be added.

Pepino's Taco Stand, located at 513 South Main Street in Brewer, will remain under the ownership of Susan Price Stephenson.

Here is a quick history of the restaurant:

  • Pepino's in Bangor has been serving Mexican food in the Bangor area for over 40 years, starting with a location in Brewer, Maine, and then expanding to Downtown Bangor.
  • It all began in the 1970s on Center Street in Bangor and moved to the Brewer location on South Main Street in 1977.
  • A second Pepino's opened in Downtown Bangor in 1978 and later moved to Stillwater Avenue in 1996.
  • Over the years, there have been other Pepino's locations, including Old Town and Ellsworth, but the two Bangor-area restaurants have always been the cornerstone of operations.
  • The current Park Street restaurant opened in the former Luna Bar & Grill building, in January of 2015.

You can experience the authentic taste of Mexico at Pepino’s. They take immense pride in bringing the vibrant flavors of Mexico to your plate, whether it's lunch, dinner, or a delectable dessert.

And no visit to Pepino's is complete without sipping on one of their delicious margaritas, enjoying a handcrafted cocktail, or choosing from a big selection of beers and ales to complement your meal.

Check out the menu, and stop by to welcome the new owners!
