While I was studying abroad in England I was able to witness some interesting differences in culture in relation to: potatoes. French fries are actually called chips and chips are called crisps. Other than that, they did not have any ranch dressing to dip the french fries in (none that tasted like the ranch I was used to) and instead they dip their fries in different flavored MAYO. I was appalled.

However, I made friends with a girl from Canada and she got me hooked on poutine. So, I decided to check out all the different kinds of poutine are in Canada. I came across an article on Food Beast sharing a multitude of ideas for recipes. These are some of my favorites!

1. The Original: Sometimes nothing can beat the original. The first version of poutine involved french fries and cheese curds all topped with beef gravy.

Since, people have tried to mix it up a bit.

2. Lobster Poutine: Find a recipe here straight from New Brunswick Canada giving details of this delicacy. The main ingredients are: lobster meat, french fries, butter, garlic, celery, carrots and onion.

3. Philly Cheese Steak Poutine: This is pretty self explanatory, but here's a more specific recipe! Red peppers, green peppers, onion, shaved steak, and a cheesy sauce with shredded mozzarella, provolone and more if wanted.

4. Pulled Pork Poutine: This recipe is magnificent. Although this involves a slow cooker for the pulled pork, this recipe yields some delicious poutine. Pulled pork and a barbeque gravy cover the crisp french fries.

5. Dessert PoutinePoutine on a cake with chocolate syrup as the gravy, marshmallow and caramel poutine, or sweet with sugar and cinnamon poutine... however you want your dessert, it can be made into poutine! Strange, but don't knock it until you try it!

6. Cheeseburger Poutine: This recipe can be made more original by your own preferences, but pretty much it involves topping your fries with ground burger, cheese, ketchup, mustard, and pickles! However, similar to real cheeseburgers, you can choose your own toppings. Be creative.

7. Buffalo Chicken PoutineThis buffalo chicken recipe is easy and convenient for those in love with hot sauce. Hot sauce, chicken, mozzarella, ranch or bleu cheese, and of course, french fries are the main ingredients for this dish.

8. Avocado Bacon Poutine: Instead of using regular gravy, put a healthier spin on poutine with this avocado 'gravy' recipe. Cilantro, lemon juice, and avocado all mixed into a blender make a great topping for some fresh poutine. Then, add some bacon bits to top it off and you've got yourself a... somewhat healthy.. dish of poutine. If that's not healthy enough or appetizing, add some onion, tomatoes and sour cream for a guacamole poutine!

9. Breakfast Poutine: In my opinion, this idea is absolutely brilliant! Every chance I get to go to my favorite breakfast place, Early Bird in Oakland, I make sure to go when they serve breakfast and lunch, later morning and afternoon. The reason? I like french fries (lunch menu item) along with my eggs (breakfast menu item), so I have to make sure I don't go to early or I can't get my french fries! Here, is the perfect blend of breakfast and lunch, with POUTINE. This recipe mixes egg, sausage,

10. Lastly, be thankful for Thanksgiving Poutine: Just picture it.... fries laying on a plate topped with stuffing, pieces of turkey, cheese, peas, gravy, and a dollop of cranberry sauce. Mouth watering, to say the least. Better yet, change the fries to sweet potato fries!

The options are endless! Let us know which ends up being your favorite! Thank you Canada for this amazing food invention.
