August 16th - August 22nd: See how Seal, Mariah Carey, Destiny's ChildTaylor Swift, the Foo Fighters, Rihanna, and Pit Bull marked this week in history for pop music from the past 30 or so years.

1995 - Seal

Seal is #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a song from the movie Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer, Tommy Lee Jones, Jim Carey, and Nicole Kidman.  Next week it will reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

 

2000 - Destiny's Child

The trifecta trio is #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 with 'Jumpin', Jumpin''.

 

2005 - Mariah Carey

The diva is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song "We Belong Together".

 

2008 - Rihanna

Rihanna is gaining traction with her career and is #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Disturbia".

 

2011 - Pitbull

Mr. Worldwide is sued by actress Lindsay Lohan for referencing her in the song "Give Me Everything".  He is protected under the First Amendment of freedom of speech and creative expression and the suit is shot down.

 

2012 - Taylor Swift

T Swizzle sells the most digital sales for a female artist with her single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together".  She sells 623,000 digital copies.

 

2015 - Foo Fighters

The rock band Rickrolls the Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas City.  The church put on an anti-gay demonstration prior to the band's show and the band clapped back by blaring Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" by the demonstration while holding signs saying "Keep It Clean" and "You Got Rick Rolled".
