A woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday after she doused herself in gasoline and threatened to set herself on fire inside the Lewiston police station, officials said.

The woman threatened to ignite her clothing with a lighter shortly after 12:30 p.m. as she stood in the lobby.

Lt. David St. Pierre told the Portland Press Herald the woman appeared to be “very distraught.”

The woman was subdued by police and then transported St. Mary’s Medical Crisis Center for evaluation.

She was not charged or arrested.
