The National Weather Service is warning of biting winds late Monday night into Tuesday, with wind chills expected to drop as low as 25 below zero in the Bangor area.

Forecasters issued a wind chill advisory for much of northern and eastern Maine.

The advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Monday to 9 a.m. Tuesday.

The cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes, according to the NWS. The advisory also calls for people to wear hats and gloves if going outside.
