As the next major snow storm moves up the east coast, the Bangor area and Downeast Maine is under a blizzard warning.

A major storm has prompted winter storm warnings from Florida to Maine. All of Maine is under a blizzard warning or winter storm watch.

The National Weather Service in Caribou is predicting 12-13 inches of snow for the Bangor area and Downeast. Depending on the storm track, the NWS predicts high end accumulations could reach 17 inches of snow in the Bangor area.

Officials caution that the snow isn't the only factor of this storm. The strong winds could cause power outages and large snow drifts.

The snow is expected to begin in the Bangor area around 9 a.m. Local schools and businesses have already announced closures in anticipation of the storm.

The Maine Emergency Management Agency offered some tips for surviving the storm at home.
