There Are Still Two Businesses In Maine, Where You Can Rent DVD’s
Make it a Blockbuster Friday night! Sorta...
You can still enjoy a blast from the past, at two unique locations.
A part of all of us died when stores like Blockbuster closed their doors. There was just something about browsing for movies to rent on a Friday night.
Do you remember the thrill of driving to get a new release? It was kind of an adrenaline rush, wondering if there were any copies left. Then you add in the smell, the candy, the thousands of titles to choose from, it just hit different, especially now that we are in the streaming age.
Yes, having Netflix and Hulu and all the other services has made life way easier, but it just isn't the same.
Sure, you can find a Redbox at just about every supermarket, or grocery store around, but the OG video rental business is a thing of the past.
There are two spots in Maine that continue to thrive, by keeping the dream alive. They take it old school...real old school.
Opera House Video, located at 109A Church Street, in Belfast, is an actual, real, live, video store, that rents DVD's, and those old relics, known as VHS tapes. They have been around since the mid 90's, and show no signs of slowing down.
In this day and age, it is truly remarkable that they continue to do this. Not only that, it is a much needed bit of nostalgia, in an ever increasing world of craziness.
If you want to relive simpler times, here are their business hours:

The store offers a wide selection of DVDs, Blue-Ray, and even VHS tapes to rent for three days for about $4 each. They even give you free popcorn every Friday night!
Check out their handy DVD and VHS take out window. So cool!
Video Habits. located at 2391 Main Street in Rangeley, is a beloved institution, offering a nostalgic video rental experience with modern amenities.
Open 9am-5pm daily, they offer up DVD rentals, Blu-ray rentals, Video game rentals, and Movie sales.
They also have a gift shop, and snack and drinks, to make your rental experience complete!
In this day and age, there is just something comforting about a video store that has a cozy, small-town video store atmosphere.
Video Habits features movie nights, game tournaments, trivia nights, and themed events.
If you are in the Belfast, or Rangeley area, help keep these incredible businesses thriving!
If this subject interests you, there is a must watch documentary about the last remaining Blockbuster store, which is located in Bend, Oregon. You can find it on Philo, or Fubo TV.
