Let's face it, it can be kind of tricky to find family-friendly things, outside of a trunk-or-treat situation, to do with young kids around the Halloween holiday.

I know my kids well enough to realize they don't do well with the gore or horror aspects of a traditional haunted house. And I know myself well enough to realize that I am jumpy as all get-out and would likely punch someone squarely in their face if they lept out of a dark corner to scare me.

So, when I read about the new Halloween Themed "Holiday Lights Trail" Glenburn Parks and Rec was putting together, I thought that might just be up our alley.

According to the Glenburn Parks And Rec Facebook Page, the trail opened this weekend and will remain open, daily, through Halloween (October 31st) from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

"The trail is located behind Glenburn elementary school, at 991 Hudson Rd in Glenburn. It is a nature trail so watch your step."

I took the kids this weekend and it was a lot of fun.

The trail runs through the woods, but they've done a good job painting all the roots and rocks that could be tripping hazards a bright white.

Those are definitely a good thing to keep an eye out for.

There are all sorts of decorations and lights hung up along the way.

Lots of ghosts and skeletons...

Definitely a spider or two...

There are some spots along the trail that have spooky sound elements that are triggered by motion...

And while they look neat in the daylight...

They really come alive after dark!

It was probably about a ten-minute walk through the trail, that spits you out across the back of another field near the school.

I would definitely recommend bringing a flashlight or two, if only to help you navigate your way to the parking lot from the field.

They've done a nice job with it.

It was spooky enough to be exciting in the dark (and there happened to be some fog the night we went, so extra spooky) but family-friendly enough so that no one got punched in the face for jumping out to scare us.
