Take A ‘Darker’ Tour of Bangor’s Mount Hope Cemetery, If You Dare
This weekend will get you in the Halloween spirit!!
A crisp fall night and visit at one of Bangor's most beautiful spots sounds like a fun time. Plus, you get a history lesson while you are at it!
Explore the dark side of Bangor, when you take a walk amid the shadows during the Bangor Historical Society's Darker Mount Hope Cemetery Tour, Friday and Saturday, October 25th & 26th, at 6pm. The nighttime walking tour of one of the oldest garden cemeteries in the nation is an annual fundraiser for the Bangor Historical Society and a seasonal favorite.
There will be dramatic, moving, touching, mysterious, and scary stories for you, all about the permanent residents of Mount Hope Cemetery.
All guests must check in at the Superintendent's Lodge at Mount Hope Cemetery, which is located at 1048 State Street, in Bangor, 20 minutes before the tour starts. Tour groups are capped at 12 guests. Advanced tickets are required. The route is roughly one mile.
Each tour lasts about 90 minutes. They encourage you to dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Parking will be available along both sides of the cemetery entry road.
Tickets are sold for specific start times, every 20 minutes starting at 6pm. You can get them here
The route is roughly one mile, and guests should plan to spend approximately 1.25-1.5 hours. They advise guests to dress warmly and bring a flashlight. Parking is available along both sides of the cemetery entry road.
Built in 1834, Bangor’s 300 acre Mount Hope Cemetery is the nation’s second-oldest garden cemetery. And I have been there many times over the years for a visit on a chilly early fall day, there is nothing quite like it, but I have never been there at night, and that is definitely on my bucket list.
