A section of walking trail in downtown Bangor has been closed.

Crews in Bangor will be working to make needed repair to a section of the Kenduskeag Stream Trail. A portion of the retaining wall is deteriorating, and has fallen into the stream. The closure impacts the trail section between Franklin Street and the parking lot behind the Penobscot County Government Offices and Jail.

City of Bangor engineer, John Theriault, told News Center Maine there's "a 42-inch concrete sewer line immediately behind the wall so we don't want to undermine that sewer line so we have to get the wall fixed as soon as possible." Theriault says crews will be building another retaining wall in front of the existing damaged one.

The work will also limit parking spaces on Franklin Street, as crews work to complete the project.
