Rockland’s “Strand Theatre” Turns 100 Tuesday & Is Celebrating W/25 Cent Tickets

The Strand Theatre in Rockland has been around for a very long time, 100 years, to be exact.

Imagine the history that's unfolded around the structure since it opened in 1923!

To help you imagine, folks at The Strand are celebrating the milestone in style Tuesday, with movies from that time, memorabilia from that time, and even ticket prices from that time!

According to the Strand Theatre-Rockland, Maine Facebook Page, along with a birthday cake, they'll be playing 3 feature films from the year it opened, at 1923 ticket prices, which would have been a whopping 25 cents!

"You are invited to help us celebrate the 100th Anniversary...Join us for a day-long celebration that features screenings of three 1923 films, offered at the 1923 ticket price of 25 cents! In the lobby, you’ll find Strand memorabilia, a storytelling project booth, and of course, cake!"

Showtimes for the 3 movies they'll be playing will be at 1PM, 3PM, and 7PM. The films will include:

"Safety Last" a silent romantic comedy starring Harold Lloyd and Mildred Davis, "The Pilgrim" starring Charlie Chaplin, and Lon Chaney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame".

While The Strand was constructed in 1923,  the Strand's website says it did undergo some updates a few years back.

"Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the theater underwent an extensive renovation in 2005, which included new sound and projection equipment, a fully restored interior and exterior, and a bright new marquee. In 2014, the theater became a non-profit organization and is now owned and operated by the Friends of the Strand Theatre. Today, the Strand Theatre is a multi-use venue offering the best of current first-run and independent films, live musical concerts and comedy, simulcasts, educational programs, conferences, and other special events on our stage and screen."

Because space inside The Strand is limited, they are asking that folks RSVP by calling the box office at 594-0070.

The birthday celebration festivities will go on from 1 PM to 9 PM.
