This Is Your Last Week To Get Your Dog Licenses Without A Fee, Maine
Put this on your to-do list if you haven't tackled this take yet in the new year.
This week is the final week for people to get their dog licenses here in the State of Maine before a penalty fee is added to your licensing fee.
Different towns have different ways that you can go about getting your dog license. Some prefer you to go to your town office while others offer the option of going online to that municipality's online portal dedicated to just renewing a dog license in that town/city.
The State of Maine website hosted by the Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry Division of Animal and Plant Health offers an online purchasing and renewing portal to take care of that dog license now.
Here's what you will need to get this year's dog license, both to obtain it online or when visiting your local municipality:
- Credit Card
- License/tag number (if renewing a dog license)
- A State of Maine Rabies certificate
- Your dog's vet name and phone number
- Spay or Neuter Certificate, if your dog has been 'fixed'
So, Why Do We Need To License Dogs Here In Maine?
According to the Division of Animal and Plant Health's website on Maine.gov, it has to do with containing the spread of disease, specifically rabies. Also, the fee you pay for licensing your dog helps pay for animal control officers and animal welfare programs.
Plus, if your dog goes missing, your licensing tag will help people bring your dog back to where he/she belongs. Dogs should be licensed up to 10 days after you adopt a dog, for dogs 6 months or older.
Be sure to renew your dog license by January 31st so you don't have to pay a late fee. For more information visit the Division of Animal and Plant Health's website on Maine.gov.
