Hurricane Maria really took a toll on the landscape and people of Puerto Rico.  Recovery efforts are still happening nearly 3 months after the hurricane hit the island.  You can help with a duel fundraiser and birthday party happening in Bangor on December 15th.

The event will be honoring an active Bangor community member, Suzanne Kelly, but will also be a Puerto Rican inspired potluck and fundraiser for the Hispanic Federation Disaster Relief Fund, “Unidos”.  The event will be taking place Friday, December 15th from 7PM - 10 PM at the Maine Holistic Center located at 81 Main Street in Downtown Bangor.

Bring food and get ready to dance.  The event is requiring you to wear socks, indoor shoes or just your bare feet.

The UNIDOS fund is supported by Lin-Manuel Miranda of “Hamilton” fame.  According to the website:

In response to the immense devastation created by Hurricane Maria, the Hispanic Federation (HF) convened government, community and philanthropic institutions and leaders to create the UNIDOS Disaster Relief and Recovery Program.

The UNIDOS program was put together to help the communities in Puerto Rico by coordinating drives on the U.S. mainland and distribute donated items and deliver emergency relief.

The organizers are still up for ideas for music as well answering any questions about the event.  Direct inquiries and suggestions to maineholisticcenter@gmail.com.
