A Presque Isle man faces several charges in connection with the abuse of a 4-month-old puppy, police said.

Presque Isle animal control officer Dan Corey began investigating after residents complained that Joseph Davis, 41, was making the dog drag a brick tied to its collar during walks in the neighborhood, the Presque Isle Police Department said on its Facebook page Monday.

During the investigation, Corey also learned that Davis had cropped the dog's ears with scissors and did not use an anesthetic or sedation, the department said.

Davis faces charges of cruelty to animals and practicing veterinary medicine without a license.
