It's time for leaf peeping. Nearly half of the state has reached peak foliage conditions.

According to the Maine Foliage Report, nearly half of Maine has reached peak foliage conditions. Much of Aroostook County and a good portion of western Maine is listed as peak conditions. Further south, moderate conditions are being observed. An area near Millinocket is listed at high foliage color.

Looking to get out and take-in those Maine foliage views? We have a list of excellent waterfalls to visit this fall. We selected waterfalls that are only an easy hike away, free to visit and take you on a beautiful road trip. If you want to bring your four-legged friend, you're in luck. All the trails we highlight are pet-friendly. Click the link below.

Another set of hikes is exactly where to go for big foliage views, and as we mentioned, in Aroostook County where conditions are currently prime. Haystack Mountain in Castle Hill is a stellar fall hike. The view is atop its mostly bald summit, gives you a nearly 360-degree view of farmland, distant ponds, and an endless sea of trees. After you hit Haystack, about 40 minutes away is our next suggested hike. Hedgehog Mountain features a summit view of the St. John Valley that's endless.
