Bucksport Bay Festival Coming in July

There's nothing like a good ol' fashion New England festival- one on the water, with live music, great music, and fun for the whole family. Add to that three days of fun and fireworks and you've got a great time. Well, mark your calendar for this upcoming festival to celebrate a great Maine town.

Bucksport Bay Festival Is Scheduled

The Bucksport Bay Festival has been scheduled. A day of festivities to honor one of the coast's greatest towns will also double as an Independence Day celebration.

The celebration will take place Saturday, July 2 starting at 10 AM.

On the docket are fireworks, music, waterslides, an obstacle course, a dunk tank, a boat parade, a pageant, and tons of vendors.

The day will be centered around the Water Front Walkway along the Penobscot River.

What to expect from the Bucksport Bay Festival

While we await the official schedule of events, previous years have started the festivities off on Friday afternoon with historical tours. Then vendors open up for food and then the Bucksport Bay Festival Pageant takes place.

In years past, other events throughout the weekend have included a pancake breakfast, a parade, Dinghy Races, Civil War reenactments, kids bounce houses, a River Duck Dash, live music, and many other fun things that fill up the whole weekend.

A bustling and bitchin' coastal community

Bucksport and its sister town across the river, Belfast, have been having quite a popularity swing lately. Last November, Bucksport was named the #1 'Best Coastal Small Town' in the United States according to USA Today. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Belfast was named Maine's Hottest Town according to Maine Life Real Estate. I can imagine a large part of their appeal is the great people who live in town and the fun activities that the town gets to take part in, like the Bucksport Bay Festival.

Take A Forbidden Look Inside Frozen Fort Knox

Fort Knox is closed for the season. While winter visitors can roam the grounds, the interior of the fort is closed off from the general public. If you browse through the photos below, you'll see why the fort is strictly off-limits until spring. That being said, we were given permission to enter the fort to create this gallery.

Again, the fort is closed from November through April. Do not attempt to enter the interior of Fort Knox. Entering the fort during the closed months is trespassing, and very dangerous.

Fort Baldwin in Phippsburg

Fort Baldwin is located in the coastal town of Phippsburg, Maine. Perched atop Sabino Hill, overlooking Fort Popham and Popham Beach, Fort Baldwin was constructed between 1905 and 1912.
