Pizza, Whoopie Pies & Train Rides: Maine’s Sweetest Summer Trip
Summer is almost here, so it’s time for the whole family to ride the rails!
Celebrating over 150 years of railroading heritage, Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad offers scenic weekend excursions from Unity, Maine. If you’ve never experienced a vintage rail journey before, this is a great way to ease into it—relaxed, scenic, and packed with small-town charm.
Most weekends bring special themed rides, and one of the most popular is the Pizza and Whoopie Pie Train Ride. Guests can enjoy pizza from a local eatery, Maine’s famous whoopie pies, and beverages including Pepsi products while traveling through the countryside in restored historic coaches.
From Unity Station, the route showcases views of Lake Winnecook, the Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, and the forests around Burnham. Moose sightings can’t be guaranteed, but they’re always hoped for along the way.
