One of the best parts of summer in Maine, is the incredible amount of food festivals that are held throughout the state, in the summer and fall months!

If you love fresh seafood, coastal culture, and a good excuse to spend a weekend by the water, mark your calendar for June 27th & 28th. The Maine Oyster Festival is returning to Freeport for its fifth annual celebration of one of the state's most beloved treasures: Maine oysters.

Over two days, festivalgoers will enjoy tens of thousands of freshly shucked Maine oysters while connecting with the farmers who grow them along Maine’s 3,500-mile coastline. With more than 150 oyster farms now operating throughout the state, Maine has become a premier destination for oyster lovers. Thanks to the region’s cold waters, oysters grow slowly, developing unique flavors influenced by local food sources, salinity levels, and water temperatures.

The festival offers much more than great seafood. Visitors can browse local artisan vendors, sample offerings from food trucks, enjoy live music with a maritime flair, and meet organizations dedicated to protecting Maine’s coastal waters. Families will find plenty to do as well, including free kids’ crafts, interactive ocean education activities, and opportunities to learn about marine life with Tidepool Tim.

For those looking to dive deeper into oyster culture, the festival features oyster farm tours, hands-on shucking lessons, the popular “Big Shuck” competition, and the official Meet the Farmer kickoff party.

Best of all, admission is completely free thanks to festival sponsors. Free shuttle service will run throughout the weekend, making it easy to get to and from the heart of downtown Freeport.

The Maine Oyster Festival promises a fun-filled weekend, rain or shine.
