Maine Is One of the Worst States for Single People
Wallethub.com just published their '2021's Best & Worst States for Singles' list. This report compiles tens of 'key indicators of dating-friendless' including opportunities your state has for dating, the cost of things where you live, job growth rate, affordable housing, restaurants per capita, and more.
While Maine doesn't appear in the bottom 10 of U.S. States when it comes to a hard time for being single, it does come in at #11.
Maine was also listed in other parts of this report, including:
- One of the 'lowest median annual household income (adjusted for cost of living)', coming in 3rd to last in the United States.
- BUT, coming in at #1 for the nation in having the lowest crime rate.
So, we're too busy to do crimes because we need to work and make money--- because we have low incomes.

The states that fared worse than us Mainers showed a good smattering of states in different regions of the United States.
The worst state for singles in the United States was New Mexico. Oddly enough, the report also share that New Mexico was the second state in the nation with the highest share of single adults. Maybe they're just shy.
The south seemed to really take the cake with being the worst states for singles. The Southern states on the list included of West Virginia, at #49, Arkansas at #46, Delaware at #45, Kentucky at #44, and Mississippi at #41. Also, those states not connected to the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii came in at #42 and #47 respectively.in the South West, New Mexico came in as the worst state for singles in the United States .
Also cracking the top 10 before Maine in the worst states for singles include the Midwestern state of North Dakota at #48 and the mountain state of Wyoming at #43.
