"Little Lost Kitchen" is making one of Maine’s most famous food destinations a lot more accessible this summer...no postcard, no lottery, and no reservation needed.

This legendary Maine restaurant is adding a new twist for the season. Erin French is the owner of The Lost Kitchen at 22 Mill Street in Freedom, Maine, a spot that’s become a full-on foodie phenomenon. It’s known just as much for its food as for how hard it is to get a table.

The main restaurant only has 48 seats, and instead of online booking, diners send postcards and hope to be picked in a random drawing. With a short season from May to October, demand far outweighs availability. The farm-to-table tasting menus and scenic mill setting have turned it into one of the most talked-about dining experiences in the country.

But here’s the easier way in. At Little Lost Kitchen, it’s all casual. The website says it best: “Bakery, beverages and light lunches from our kitchen. To take-away or enjoy outside in our back garden. Order at our counter, snag an outdoor table and enjoy a sip and a nibble beside the mill pond. Come join us some sunny day soon!”

It’s open Tuesday through Saturday, with lunch specials from 11am–2:30pm and baked goods, sandwiches, wine, and beer available from 11am–4pm. And the key detail: NO RESERVATIONS NEEDED.

You just show up, order at the counter, and sit outside by the water. That’s it.

Erin French’s work has made the Lost Kitchen name famous far beyond Maine, with cookbooks, TV shows on the Magnolia Network, and appearances on major national programs.

For a lot of visitors, Little Lost Kitchen is the simplest way to experience it all, the same setting, way more relaxed.
