Local Fire Department Reminds Us to Clear Hydrants Following Storms
The Eddington Fire Department put up a post this morning of a post-storm reminder.
The post shows a picture of a fire fighter digging out snow around a fire hydrant with a house on fire in the background. The message included in the photo is a must-do post-storm need: "If your house were on fire, is this what you'd want to see firefighters doing when they arrive? Please take a few minutes now and dig out your nearest fire hydrant."
The Eddington Fire Department added this to the post:
We have over 60 hydrants in town. Help us out if you can. If you want to know the location of the closest hydrant to you, let us know.
And while we're at it, here's a few other things to clear out:
- Your on-road mailbox
- A path to your utilities for oil delivery, gas delivery
- Dryer vents
- Furnace vents
- Roof build-up of ice and snow, to avoid leaks in your roof
