I'm always fascinated with the how artists manage to come into their own and arrive on the scene. In Lizzo's case, she's taken quite the journey from her start as a 5th grade band-geek to become the bombastic, spirited singer/rapper and entertainer that she is. This past weekend, she dished out all the details of how she came to be the Lizzo we know now, on CBS Sunday Morning.

Starting off being inspired by a grade-school band teacher, Lizzo chronicles how choosing to play the flute and her experience being part of a marching band led to her collaborative nature. (6:24)

About 9 minutes in, she explains how some changes in her family dynamic resulted in her taking some time to reflect on what she wanted to do with her life, and ultimately resulted in her changing course from flute to singing.

Half way through, at about 12 minutes, Lizzo explains how her experiences, and the world, led to her having to battle to regain her self-confidence.

I have to say, she really shows a different side of herself during the interview, and whether you're a fan or not, you've gotta give Lizzo credit for working her tail off to get to where she is today. Enjoy!
