Summer is here. Time to crank some tunes!

The summer solstice officially arrives on Saturday, June 20, at 5:44 p.m. Not only is it the longest day and shortest night of the year, it means at least three months of great weather and good times.

The summer solstice officially arrived today at 6:07 a.m., and with that in mind, I thought this would be the perfect occasion to bust out some of the best songs about everyone’s favorite time of year.

There have been so many songs about sunshine and fun in the sun that made it hard to narrow it down to a select few. From DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, to Justin Timberlake, to Kid Rock, these tunes make for a perfect summer jam playlist.

Nothing makes you wanna hang with your friends and have backyard BBQ like this classic jam!

JT’s ode to a summer romance still sounds great on a sunny day.

Can’t have a list like this without a boy band entry.

This track makes me want to watch “The Karate Kid” and remember the romance between Daniel & Ally.

One of the great summer tunes ever from R&B legend Sly Stone.

We play this one-hit wonder from LEN, year round on the Back In The Day Cafe.

Gotta have a classic rock song represented here. This reminds me of the Bryan Adams show on the Bangor Waterfront back in 2016.

The Grease sing-a-long recently aired on CBS. I defy you to not join in when you hear this.

Kid Rock borrows the melody line from “Sweet Home Alabama” and we were all hooked.

I’ve long established my preference to David Lee Roth (much to the dismay of Todd SImcox) but this Sammy and Eddie collaboration screams summertime.
