In a shocking new video interview with TMZ aired live today (Tuesday May 1), Kanye West admitted to being addicted to painkillers following liposuction he underwent in 2016.

After instructing the entire TMZ newsroom to listen carefully to his story, West explained he became hooked on opioids after getting plastic surgery in an attempt to prevent tabloids like TMZ from calling him "fat."

"I was drugged the f--- out, bro. I was on opioids," West shared. "I had plastic surgery because I was trying to look good for y'all. I got liposuction because I didn't want y'all to call me fat like you called Rob [Kardashian] at the wedding and made him fly home before me and Kim got married. I didn't want ya'll to call me fat so I got liposuction and they gave me opioids. And I started taking two of them and driving to work."

West revealed he continued taking even more painkillers during his 2016 Saint Pablo Tour. After a friend told him the the pills "killed genius," he stopped taking the medication just days before his abrupt November hospitalization. The hospitalization resulted in the cancellation of his remaining tour dates, and West subsequently went on a near yearlong social media hiatus.

"I was addicted to opioids [and] two days after I got off opioids, I'm in the hospital," the rapper continued, claiming that the U.S. is "drugged out."

"We are following other people's opinions. We are controlled by the media and today it all changes," West said.

West's TMZ rant follows a string of bizarre statements and behavior on social media during the past month.
