The world lost an icon this past Sunday. RIP Alex Trebek

Jeopardy host Alex Trebek passed away after a lengthy battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He was the host of the syndicated game show Jeopardy! for 36 years, from its revival in 1984, until his death in 2020. There are enough episodes recorded with him to last until Christmas Day.

I’ve been looking back at a bunch of Jeopardy clips on YouTube, and found a few with some sort of connection to the state of Maine. One episode featured a category called “Maine Stays” which the contestant was able to sweep through. Can you answer any of these questions?

“41” is HBO’s documentary about him & his life in Kennebunkport, his anchor to Winward”

“A year after he retired to Walden Pond, he headed for the backwoods of Maine and wrote 3 essays about his trip there”

“This future president left New Hampshire for Bowdoin College, where he was friends with Nathaniel Hawthorne”

“This historian went to Colby College in Waterville. She alter met and married Richard Goodwin, adviser to JFK & LBJ”

Over the years an occasional Mainer would appear on the show. Earlier this year, Dennis Coffey, who's a bartender in Old Orchard Beach, was a winner on the program, and of course Bangor residents will remember that Allen Adams, from The Maine Edge also appeared.

Today on the Z Morning Show, we played a clip of some the funny moments from Alex Trebek. There is nothing quite like listening to him recite hip-hop lyrics!
