According to Income By Zip CodeThe average income for Maine households is $91,599, which they say is 13% lower than the US average, while the median household income is $68,251, which is 9% lower than the US median.

Where are all of the rich people in Maine congregating? Well, Income By Zip Code’s recent research suggests that a good chunk of them are in the town of Cumberland.

#1. Cumberland is known for its charming New England vibe and strong community ties. I wouldn’t have guessed this to be #1 but I guess it’s not a huge surprise that this area ranks as the wealthiest zip code in the state.

#2. Falmouth takes the #2 spot. Definitely a popular spot for fancy waterfront properties, high-end homes and top-tier schools. The combination of perfect views and these amenities attracts those with the deeper pockets, leading to its place as one of Maine’s most desirable (and priciest) locations.

#3. Cape Elizabeth. This town is famous for its scenic coastlines, lighthouses, and historic forts. It blends luxury with a laid-back lifestyle, making it a desirable spot for those who want to enjoy the finer things while soaking in the ocean breeze.

The highly desirable (and expensive) towns of Yarmouth, Ogunquit, Scarborough, North Yarmouth, Bristol and York round out the top 10 richest towns in Maine, according to Income By Zip Code.

These stats don’t mean that these are the most expensive towns to buy a home in, although they do rank high on the list. According to Stacker, that award goes to Kennebunkport.
