It's one of those situations where with very little effort by you, others in your community benefit big time. All you have to do is set stuff out!

Each year, United States Postal Services designates one weekend where their carriers do more than just drop off and pick up mail and packages.

During their annual "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign, on the second Saturday in May, Postal Carriers nationwide, collect bags of non-perishable food and help distribute them to local food cupboards.

According to the National Association Of Letter Carriers or NALC, as it's called for short, the need for food security in America is on the rise and this is one easy way folks can help.

"Simply leave your donation of non-perishable food in a bag near your mailbox on the second Saturday in May, and your letter carrier will do the rest."

"Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States."

According to the USPS website, to help Stamp Out Hunger...

"Just place a box or can of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your letter carrier delivers mail on the second Saturday in May. The carrier will do the rest. The food is sorted, and delivered to an area food bank or pantry, where it is available for needy families."

You can easily be a part of doing good in your neighborhood by leaving out a couple of cans. Your postal carrier will add that to the nearly one BILLION pounds of food the "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign has collected in the last 25 years.

The site says that letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America, from nearly 1,500 branches in 50 states take part in the food drive.
