Maine Authorities Bust Another Pair Of Alleged Drug Dealers In Bangor Tuesday
Maine authorities are sharing details of yet another successful drug bust in the Bangor area this week.
Commander Brandon Vafiades, with the Maine Department of Public Safety and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, says MDEA Task Force members got a tip that a pair of individuals were traveling back and forth between Maine and Massachusetts, trafficking drugs.
Vafiades says it was this information, along with the aid of a K-9 unit, that led to a drug bust on Union Street in Bangor, following a traffic stop Tuesday.
"Identified in the vehicle were 31-year-old Jasmine DONOVAN of Monticello, Maine and 29-year-old Sandy Alexander MATEO-RUIZ of the Dominican Republic.
Subsequent to the traffic stop, A K-9 sniff was conducted by Bangor Police. The K-9 detected an odor of narcotics in the vehicle...Seized from the vehicle was approximately 290 grams of Fentanyl and $560 dollars in suspected drug proceeds."
Vafiades said the value of the drugs that were found with the individuals was almost $50,000.
Both people were arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where they were charged with felony drug trafficking charges.
"Bail for MATEO-RUIZ was set at $100,000 cash. Bail for DONOVAN was set at $50,000 cash or Surety."
Along with that arrest, Bangor Police and the Maine DEA also made another significant drug bust this week, seizing a quarter of a million dollars worth of drugs from an operation on Ohio Street.
