Two men suffered serious injuries; one of them is dead, following a terrible crash in Kennebec County early Tuesday morning.

Where and how were the men injured?

Investigators say the vehicle they were traveling in ended up in a wooded area after leaving Benton Road in Albion, sometime after 12:30 AM on Tuesday. The Maine Department of Public Safety says authorities found the driver and a passenger near to

The driver, 40-year-old Jonathan Nutt of China, suffered serious injuries and was transported by LifeFlight of Maine to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he is listed in serious condition. His passenger, 35-year-old Anthony Lapio of Burnham, died at the scene."

Maine State Police Investigators responded to the scene, as did both Albion and Winslow Fire Departments and Delta Ambulance. Carroll's Body Shop and Towing also assisted with cleanup.

Investigators believe Nutt may have been under the influence of alcohol and speeding at the time the crash occurred, but the incident is still being investigated.

Authorities are asking anyone in the area who may have seen or heard the crash, or who has details pertinent to the case, to contact State Trooper Chris Allen with the Maine State Police.

According to the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, there have been 102 traffic fatalities on Maine roadways since the start of this year, and we're not even into the winter driving months yet, when driving conditions can be treacherous. In all of 2025, there were 122 deaths.
