Maine law enforcement has released transcripts of calls made to 911 during the Lewiston shootings, including from people who believed they knew the suspect.

What Were the Details of the Shooting?

It was a horrifying night for the entire state, when Robert Card killed 18 people and injured 18 others in two mass shootings at the Just in Time Recreation Bowling Alley and Schemengees Bar & Grill, both in Lewiston. . But for the people who were in the bowling alley or bar, they were living a nightmare. And then there were the people who saw the picture released by the police of Robert Card who realized they knew the shooter. Do you call? What if it's not who you think it is?

Robert Card was found, after an extensive manhunt, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Lisbon.

Are There Transcripts from People Who Were in the Shooting Locations?

The calls to 911 are chilling. The first one I read appeared to be a person who may have had a child with them, hiding in the office. Another was an employee of the bowling alley who calls to offer a description of the suspect and suddenly realizes they should lock the door, in case he comes back.

As you get into the transcripts, there are calls from people who were in the bowling alley, including a person whose son has been shot in the arm. In another call, a person with a number of children hears someone at the door but refuses to open the door until they have proof that it's the police.

Where Will We Find Them?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says there are 51 transcripts of emergency calls that were received by three communications centers on the evening of October 25, 2023. The transcripts have been shared on the public Lewiston Mass Shooting Released Documents website that contains things like warrants and affidavits, the manhunt timeline, and Card's criminal history.

As with all the documents, Moss says 911 records that have been designated confidential by Maine statute have been redacted.
