Bangor Group Invites You to Party Like It’s 1899 in Orrington

The public is invited for beer sampling, 19th Century carousel riding, and learning more about Bangor Greendrinks in Orrington.

What is Bangor Greendrinks?

If you've never been to one of Bangor Greendrinks Tuesday parties, you should check it out. These are family-friendly events with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, refreshments, and lots of socializing. Sometimes they have live music and, at other times, the parties are held in interesting places that offer other forms of entertainment. There's a suggested donation of $5 when you stop in and you're invited to bring your own drinking vessel (that's a glass) to enjoy the refreshments that are offered at no extra charge. No worries if you forget yours. There are usually some onsite to buy. During the event, you'll also learn more about this non-profit that gives micro-grants for local environmental projects in the Greater Bangor area. That's where the name comes from - it happens in Bangor, it furthers the community's green footprint, and you drink. Bangor Greendrinks!

Why Are They Partying in Orrington?

On Tuesday, August 8th, from 5 to 7, the public is invited to their latest field trip. This time, the party's being held at the 19th Century Curran Village in Orrington, which is a recent recipient of a micro-grant. In a post on the Greendrinks event page, they describe how the Orrington non-profit is helping the environment.

19th Century Curran Village collects, preserves, and utilizes historic artifacts and buildings for the purpose of exhibition, living history, traditional arts programming, and hands-on education, and in so doing keeping lots of materials out of landfills.

The 19th Century Curran Village is a living history museum, located at 372 Fields Pond Road in Orrington.

What Types of Things Will There Be to Do There?

During the event, people will be able to tour some of the historic buildings, ride the carousel from the late 19th century that's been completely restored (yes, adults can ride), and sample beers from the Home Brewers of Greater Bangor. Attendees can sample the beverages and then vote for their favorite beer, with the winning brewer set to get a prize.

One thing to note: People will have to park on the side of Fields Pond Road and there is a bit of a walk to get to the village. Some of it's over uneven, unpaved ground so sneakers might be a better choice than stilettos. Dress comfortably and get ready to have some old-school fun in Orrington.
