Santos says he got the idea to open the laundromat about a year and a half ago and has been working on the project ever since.
"I saw a need in this (north/south main st) area for laundry access and thought this spot would be perfect."
He says it's been designed as a self-serve laundromat, so there's no need for employees.
It boasts one 50 lb washer, four 35 lb washers, four 18 lb washers, eight dryers and they even have a vending machine with drinks and snacks. And there's off-street parking available next to the building.
Santos, who owns the building that contains a couple of apartment units, the laundromat, and the office for his other business, Santos Custom Builders-which he has run for the past 16 years, has been working on getting the space outfitted to do laundry since this spring. He got his certificate of occupancy just before Thanksgiving.
Aside from Suds In The Bucket, there are two Gold Star Cleaners in Brewer, one at 200 Wilson St. and one further up in the Hannaford Shopping Plaza at 400 Wilson St.
