Hey Bangor, empty that coin jar!

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States has found itself in a coin shortage. So much so in fact, that some retailers want yours.

I use my debit and also like to carry a little bit of money with me at all times, I’m not sure why, but I always like to have some handy just in case. This means that I have an over abundance of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. I literally toss them into old Nike shoe boxes, where they go to die, but apparently, now is the time to gather them up and cash them in.

Most businesses would probably prefer that you use a debit, or credit card, but the big boy retailers like Target, and Lowe’s (both of which have locations here in the Bangor area) are posting signs in their stores looking for your rolled coins. You get it back in bills, and in some cases, they give you a free soda and sandwich too. Not sure what a sandwich from Lowe’s would taste like, but I’d give it a go.

This all came about because of the people who would normally pay with bills, thereby generating more change, deciding to stay home during the very beginning of the pandemic, also, most stores were closed at the time, which added to the shortage.

This is all probably short lived, since life is slowly returning to some sort of normalcy, but maybe now is the time to roll all that nasty, dirty change up, cash it in, treat yourself to something, and help out our economy at the same time. There are so many amazing local businesses in the greater Bangor area that would appreciate your patronage!
