Its been a long, snowy winter and the fine feathered (and non-feathered) friends at Birdsacre, Stanwood Wildlife Sanctuary on High Street in Ellsworth, are getting ready to think Spring! And they need your help.

If you haven't been to Birdsacre yet, let me give you this skinny on what they are all about: birds and nature! And they have plenty of both! So as the snow starts to melt, there's plenty to be done to get things in tip-top shape for the birds on hand, and the birds they will help rehab this year.

For the past 15 years, the Downeast Audubon, a group of bird lovers from around the area, have helped in this effort, holding Annual Spring Clean Up events at Birdsacre. This year's is scheduled to take place Saturday April 20 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Organizers recommend that you bring appropriate footware and some gloves. If you have a rake, bring it! They will have snacks and hot drinks on hand for volunteers.

If you are interested in helping spruce the place up, you can call them at 667-8460.

Also, as a little side note, if you have kids interested in meeting the Owls of Birdsacre (because a big part of what they do there is rehab owls,) make sure to pop in to the Maine Discovery Museum the day before the clean up (Friday, April 19 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.) and check them out in person.
