Get Ready For a Huge Construction Project on I-95 in Hampden

Beginning on July 22, northbound traffic on I-95 in Hampden will be shifted to a temporary diversion roadway at the East Bridge over the Souadabscook Stream.

It will be the first of four temporary diversion roadways. The Maine DOT is using the median of I-95 to accommodate interstate bridge work. The speed limit will be reduced to 55 miles per hour through the diversion for the duration of its use.

In total, the project involves rebuilding eight bridges and rehabilitating a ninth bridge along a four-mile stretch of I-95 in Hampden. The eight bridge replacements are happening on both the northbound and southbound sides of the interstate at four sites between Exits 174 and 180.

Northbound traffic on I-95 will be shifted to the remaining three diversion roadways throughout the rest of this year.

MaineDOT plans to divert southbound traffic to these temporary roadways in 2021.

Cianbro Corporation is the contractor on the $44.8 million project. The estimated completion date of the project is November 30, 2022, according to the Maine DOT.
