A new play, “Every Brilliant Thing” speaks openly about depression, mental illness, and suicide

Performances will be held on August 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th at 7pm with a runtime of approximately 80 minutes.

Some Theatre Company is located inside the Bangor Mall at 663 Stillwater Avenue. (Opposite Lens Crafters, next to Furniture, Mattresses, and More.)

They ask that you please park between JC Penney's and the Furniture Store.

This is the play synopsis:

“You’re six years old. Mum’s in hospital. Dad says she’s ‘done something stupid’. She finds it hard to be happy.
So you start to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for.
1. Ice Cream. 2. Kung Fu Movies. 3. Burning Things. 4. Laughing so hard you shoot milk out your nose 5. Construction cranes. 6. Me
You leave it on her pillow. You know she’s read it because she’s corrected your spelling. Soon, the list will take on a life of its own.
A new play about depression and the lengths we will go to for those we love.”

The subject matter of the show is extremely relevant to the times with depression running rampant post-Covid. It addresses the topics of depression and suicide, the effects it has on those closest to us, and how we try to cope in different ways- whether it be humor, storytelling, avoidance, or finding the small but brilliant things to hold onto.

The timing of this show also coincides with the recent rollout of the new 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline.

Despite this subject matter, the show is peppered with comedy and relies heavily on audience participation which makes it unlike most shows.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at www.stcmaine.org the Some Theatre Company website.
