Remember These Classic Maine TV Christmas Commercials?

Let's take it old school, Christmas style!

In this day and age, it seems like advertising is dominated by the Target's and Amazon's of the world, who seem to be in our face 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, but before all of that, you could always count on a little slice of home, when you turned the TV on.

It's always fun to take a look back at local television ads from days gone by, and thanks to the magic of YouTube, all those childhood memories are just a click away.

So gather around the computer, or whip out your phone and check out these gems, including one from Bangor Mall during the days when you could actually smoke and bring pets indoors there. Many moons ago!

Any old school Mainer remembers LaVerdiere's Super Drug Stores. At its peak, the company operated more than 70 stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Aside from the pharmacy, the stores sold general items, as well as toys and Halloween and Christmas decorations. In the 1980s, some LaVerdiere's locations featured an arcade, called Action Family Arcade. The company was purchased by Rite Aid, back in 1994.

And no look back at classic commercials would be complete without the now legendary Christmas kittens from the iconic Bangor Savings Bank commercials that aired for years on channels 2,5, and 7, in the Bangor area and beyond. This holiday gem just turned 44 years old in 2024.
