Privacy and personal civil liberties have always been a topic of conversation that may people, including myself feel very strongly about.

With advances in technology these seem to be challenged more and more in our daily lives.

Facial recognition software for example can be combined with a database of faces such as Department of Motor Vehicle files, and match a photo or some type of digital image or video to create a match. This technology is employed in several cities around the country as well as airports, and even retail establishments according to the New York Times.

According to an article at centralmaine.com, the city of Waterville will be discussing the use of such technology and whether to consider banning the use of facial recognition software for use by the police in Waterville.

This topic will be part of the city council meeting in Waterville tomorrow (Tue, 4/20/21) which can be viewed on the city's website: waterville-me.gov

According to the article by centralmaine.com, Waterville's Mayor, Jay Coelho plans to propose a ban on such technology before it comes up in the future following suit with such cities as Portland, and Boston, etc.

One thing is for certain, as the technology continues to develop, more uses will be found to support the sales of such technology in everyday life.
