Charlie Howard Memorial and Celebration Monday Evening in Downtown Bangor
As a part of Pride Week here in Bangor, a memorial of Charlie Howard will take place Monday, June 17 to remember his life and pride of the Queer community.
The event is being hosted by Bangor Maine Pride Festival and Health Equity Alliance on the State Street Bridge in Bangor starting at 6 p.m. and ending around 7 p.m. Here's the full schedule of events.
The memorial is an event to remember the life of Charlie Howard, a gay Bangor resident who died in Bangor as a result of violence based hate in July of 1984.
There will be speeches about Charlie's life, how is death has affected the Bangor community as well as candle lighting and flower laying at his memorial at the State Street Bridge.
After the memorial a celebration will take place at the Rainbow Crosswalk that crosses the State Street Bridge. The colorful crosswalk is painted annually to honor Charlie and the Bangor area Queer community.
This event is free and open to the public. Kids and leashed pets are welcome.
