There was quite a buzz, back at the beginning of August, when folks started to notice some working being done to the old Toys R Us building, off of the Hogan Road in Bangor.

We brought you the story that the building at 6 Bangor Mall Blvd. had been sold, earlier that summer, to a group called Waterstone Bangor, LLC., based out of Needham, Mass.

According to the Director of Code Enforcement for the City of Bangor, Jeff Wallace, Waterstone had filed for a permit to do some interior renovations in mid-July. The renovations included opening up the floorplan and doing some work to the parking lot.

We checked back in with Wallace this week, to see if there had been any other permits, to do with the property, that may have been filed with the city, and he said there had been.

We had heard some whispers that Bob's Discount Furniture, a furniture chain based out of  Manchester, Connecticut, with 126 locations all over the U.S (including  Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island) might be interested in opening a store in Bangor. Sure enough, Wallace confirmed our hunch.

"I have indeed issued a permit for a Bobs Furniture to go in a portion of the former Toys 'R' Us. Nothing yet on the rest of the space or the old Bed, Bath, and Beyond."

We reached out to the corporate office of Bob's Discount Furniture, and have left several messages, but our calls have not yet been returned. So, we may not yet know a time frame or many of the details surrounding the building's new purpose. But at least we now know what's planned for the space.

And once we know more, we'll let you know.
