
Bangor Man Faces Charges After Allegedly Attempting To Meet Teen For Sex
A Bangor man faces an attempted sexual assault of a minor charge as the result of an ongoing police investigation.
David Lawrence, 51, was taken into custody on Tuesday after a Bangor Police detective in the Bangor Police took over a texting conversation between juvenile female and Lawrence. Acting as the juvenile, the detective received numerous sexually based statements and comments from the adult male, according to a news release.
After an extended period of time, the suspect went directly to the juvenile’s home with intent on meeting that juvenile for the purposes of a sexual encounter, according to police.
Two Bangor Police Department detectives were on the other side of the door, according to a news release.
He was immediately taken to the Penobscot County Jail. The charge of attempted sexual assault of a minor is a class D offense due to the fact that the sexual assault had not yet occurred. The offense is punishable by up to one year in jail.
Bangor police urge parents to keep a watchful eye on pre-teens as well as teenagers in regard to their texting habits. .
