Here is Why Bangor City Hall Lights Are Teal in Color
If you are downtown Bangor after dark this month, or even just passing through in your vehicle you may have noticed at exterior lights at the Bangor City Hall building on Harlow Street
.Teal in color. A very nice change, but the lights are teal this month for a very serious reason.
For the month of April, City Hall is lit up with Teal lights in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Sexual Assault Awareness Week was started over 30 years ago and since then events have taken place over the entire month of April
Awareness day was last week, but this is such a serious topic that can use as much attention as possible. There is a good chance that someone in your life is a survivor of sexual harassment, assault or abuse. And for a lot of survivors, they may have never shared their story with you or others. But it still is a very serious issue whether it has been discussed or not.
We can all show our support for survivors of sexual harassment and abuse by wearing teal, the color of sexual violence prevention.
The City of Bangor is showing support all month long with the teal colored lighting at night, a signal of support for survivors. Thank you to all at Rape Response Services and the Penquis Children’s Advocacy Center who work to support our community.
